Identical hand carved bas relief book ends depict a reclining nude woman, lounging with her arm draped over a rather fierce-faced lion. Other decorative accents include, wreath and ribbon, leaves, circles, leaf and berry.
One has a hand etched "J. Toly" on the base. No other provenance indications.
The stone has not been thoroughly cleaned and has a patina commensurate with age. It is mostly creamy white with some lighter, and some darker striations.
There are numerous small chips, and one larger chip at the top of one. They are otherwise solid and will do an excellent job holding your books up straight as they weigh in at about 6 pounds.
