Grape and Cherries Art Pottery Vase
Turn-Teplitz, Austria.
This amazingly crafted piece is made in the Art Nouveau Jugendstil style of the late 1800's early 1900's.
It is most likely an Amphora piece from the Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel factory, but the incision under the glaze was not deep enough to read clearly. There is only an incised, empty cartouche, but this is not an uncommon occurance.
Overall mottled, matte green gold ground glaze. Metallic gold rim, gold rim at the top. The face is decorated with applied fruit; large deep purple glossy grapes and deep red cherries are topped by delicate green and metallic gold leaves.
Approximate measurements: 5 inches wide, 4.5 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide front to back including fruit.
Marks: As mentioned, vase is marked with a well-incised, empty cartouche, an incised three point crown, and a deeply incised number looks to read "8958." All marks are under the glaze
Condition: Solid with no hairlines or structural problems. There is some glaze loss to the edges of some leaves, and some unfortunate scratches on the red glazed cherries. The leaf glaze issues may have been in the making.
